Works great for our household

We have 5 of these sets and are quite satisfied with their performance. Good reception and the most-used features are intuitive and easy to use, plus the handsets have a nice heft to them -- not flimsey at all. Now if I can just get my husband to quit playing with the ringtones.

Poor Reception - Very Static

We purchased this phone to go with the rest of the set and we were extremely disappointed!! We had to return them for a different brand because we could not hear!!! They were so static that you often could not hear the person speaking!! You would think at this price it would not be so static. We went for a brand at a much lower price and they are crystal clear!!

Don't waste your money

I spent hundreds to buy a set of these (5 handsets and one base unit model MD7080) and scrapped them after less than a year for the following reasons:
br /
br /1) The sound is over-compressed and "fuzzy-sounding" even when close to the base unit (within 20 feet in the same room). Further than 50 feet or through walls it gets even worse. If the person on the other end doesn't speak-up loudly and clearly you will have difficulty understanding them.
br /
br /2) Controls are non-intuitive and difficult to read: Multiple-line use is confusing (conference-calling or answering a second line while speaking on the first) and I find it difficult to remember even though I'm in the computer consulting business and have a fairly strong technical aptitude. If you you have even a mild requirement for reading glasses you will need them to read the button labels (tiny print and low-contrast).
br /
br /Unfortunately I kept these too long to return them. I won't even sell them on eBay because I value my eBay seller reputation and wouldn't want to rip anyone off or deal with the hassle of returns.

Had to return it.

Couldn't get enough volume from the base unit to make it usable, even in a quiet office. Handsets were staticy and echoed my voice when talking. Just didn't live up to expectations.

Not really for business use

The quality of the phone is very good. BUT, there is no privacy feature. If I am making a call on line 1, anyone can pick up that same line and listen in or join in. It has happened many times, someone will be using line 1 for example, I will dial a number and press the line 1 button only to find out that it is already in use and interrupting and annoying the other person. I am checking to see if I can return for a refund......

Good little system

I ended up returning a similar uniden system, this Moto has much better range and is easier to use. The unidens felt like a toy by comparison. We bought 3 handsets and will probably get 1 or 2 more.
br /
br /In a rural area we get about 300 feet before the signal breaks up. The intercom feature is great, and it has a setting where it goes to speakerphone automatically after paging someone, very useful. All in all we're very happy. Clearing the caller ID list takes a few too many steps, and likewise with some of the address book features, but those are all minor gripes.
br /
br /UPDATE: a few years later and many of the LCD displays are failing on these units. Thankfully the units are pretty inexpensive to replace, but very annoying nevertheless. So I would demote it to 3 stars if I could.
br /
br /UPDATE #2: MOtorola has discontinued this system so if you want to add or replace an extension handset you are SOL. Given how almost all the screens have faded, I'm really annoyed.

I can say that no problems with the phone, and what you see is what you get. Reach average. Battery life normal. Heavy for a phone.

We got the base handset 2 line phone first (w/ answering machine) We liked it so much we bought another expansion handset for our upstairs bedroom. We liked that so much we bought another expansion handset for our basement. The phone works fine except for two things: I wish the volume control was more accesible so you could turn it up while talking. I always seem to have to look at the phone and figure that out each time. Maybe it's just me. Also, it seems like with each expansion handset it has gotten so that the volume needs to be turned up more and more often. Not sure if this is because we have 3 phones running off the base or not. But otherwise we are happy with the phone. On a really positive note I left a handset outside by accident while hanging Christmas lights right after Thanksgiving. We had no idea what happened to it. About a week ago my husband came inside and had the phone in hand! It was wet after being outside for two months (Ohio winter weather, lots of rain) but after I let it dry out it works! The only thing is it doesn't ring at the handset but the phone is fully operational. I think that's a pretty good phone to still work after that.

This phone is great. The battery backup is a plus. It also has shared and individual handset phonebooks which is nice. The multiple ring tones are also very useful. At 5.8 GHz, it is very clear, even next to my microwave. The only drawback is the talk time battery life. I typically only get 2-3 hours max talk time. Good thing I have two handsets. I would recommend the phone if you need a solid two line cordless unit with a fully functional base unit.

Well, here I am. I bought this phone for our home-office with the goal of having two phone lines (business and private) readily available on ONE phone. Great idea and the Motorola fit the bill.
br /
br /Anyway, after the purchase (actually it must have been a previously returned item at Amazon, but never mind), we were really happy with the phone. Yes, it's ergonomic and has some nice features (nice ring-tones, 2 answering machines, one for each line - perfect), but then it came: "out of range" messages all over on the hand-held... what the heck???!
br /
br /So, as it turns out, the folks at Motorola didn't do a good job with the firm-ware (outsourced/offshored to India? Well, Motorola, maybe you should re-think your business-model, or maybe you just got bad contractors in Bangalore, India...), because the device needs a lot (A LOT!!!!) of hands-on interaction: So far, I've replaced the handheld batteries thrice (yes, that's 3x $15 at Radio-Shack! It seems, that the "message waiting" indicator = green blinking hand-held antenna drains the battery, hmhmmmm) and I had to unplug the base-unit several times (including taking out the batteries) to get rid of that nasty "out of range" message...
br /
br /But bottom line is: I L-O-V-E that phone! It's ergonomic, it's beautiful, it has a lot of features at a reasonable price, that's why I gave it 4 stars. But anybody looking for a Zero-Maintenance phone, my advise is: STAY AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN!
br /
br /Hope that review helped.

Nice handset. Works great with its base unit. I bought 4 extra handsets and the reception is great all over the house. I love the fact that you can give a name to each handset so it is easy to use the intercom system as well. Another nice feature is that each handset has its own phonebook but all of them can store and fetch numbers in the Shared phonebook of the base unit. You can examine the caller id from each handset independently and store any required numbers in the base unit to be used from any handset. Plus, since each handset has its own caller id log if you delete something by mistake (for example, before storing the number)you can retrieve it from another handset or even the base. Lots of other features that work very well, different ringing tones based on the incoming number and the ability to turn off the ringer on a given handset (nice when my grandaughter is visiting).

br /I two ordered the "md7001 2 line phone" I thought I was getting a cordless 2 line phone. What I actually got was a 2 line handset that requires a base unit for it to work. This info should be prominently displayed in their description.

I ordered the "md7001 2 line phone" Being a novice to this I thought I was getting a cordless 2 line phone. What I actually got was a 2 line handset that requires a base unit for it to work. This info should be prominently displayed in their description. I am returning it because I feel it is a form of deception to not properly describe the item in its main heading. It says DIGITAL CORDLESS 2-LINE PHONE. It should say DIGITAL CORDLESS 2-LINE HANDSET. After reading some of the reviews of this and their other products, I decided I didn't want Motorola crapola.

I ordered this phone in hopes it would do what i needed. BLECH! the reception was lousy and didn't have the features i needed. I couldn't see the screen at all - it was always at the wrong angle. I'm returning this item. Still looking for a good replacement for my Siemens gigaset 2120... will keep looking.
